RAVEL/JUMBLE fabric sketchbook

About the RAVEL collection:

Working on RAVEL was an amazing opportunity to continue my visual exploration into shapes. For this collection, I focused on the modern Roman alphabet (aka the 26 letterforms from A—Z ) as the primary shapes I wanted to work with. RAVEL became a collection of prints about these shapes coming together and falling apart. While creating, my main questions circled around a.) How can I break letters apart into new, interesting forms and also b.) Is it possible to obscure these already imbued symbols so much that they ‘lose’ their meaning? The letterforms in RAVEL run the gamut from being clear & legible to fractured, to finally some forms completely disintegrating into their environments.

According to Merriam-Webster, a contronym is a word having two meanings that contradict one another, so finding the word RAVEL was perfect for bringing all these ideas together in ‘collection’ form. Ravel means both to tangle and to untangle, which is a wonderful way to think about these visual shapes in space.

About the Blank Slate series:
I found my first set of discarded publishing blanks or (dummies) in a huge pile at one of my favorite reuse centers in Oakland about a year ago. All these beautiful empty white book forms just sat there waiting to become something. So I bought the whole stack and then stacks more, and little by little, they have become part of this new blank slate journal/sketchbook series.

All books in this series are one-of-a-kind. Read the following specs carefully.
(I have filled out as much information about the paper weight, texture, surface, etc… but some of the book forms have been acquired with no descriptions. I will guess as best I can in some instances. Artists: feel free to contact me if there is a certain medium you use and you want to be sure the paper will be suitable. I can try to test the surface for you as best I can.)

paper description: the inside paper is 120gsm, or 80lb text weight based on another sample I have here that feels the same. Paper is white and matte, no coating or gloss.
