When I first started construction for this book I thought I was making room in the pages for other items to be seen more easily. I was trying to build space within the material page for what I could add: ideas, energy, tension, ease —— Layers of meaning that could be contained, communicated, obscured even… As time went on, I found myself more and more interested in what was already inherently there without me and this physical process of unthreading fabric was the task to get my body to be still enough to see it.
The act of making is the act of witnessing, and for me, this process illuminated the feeling so vividly that this time I left proof. Instead of using the pages I prepared as the content for the final book, in the end, what felt more true was to share the process of making those pages. This artifact is what is left of one small, very singular effort to pay close attention.
